Drift One

The following five posts, in order, correspond to my five chosen sounds. Below is a GoogleMap which shows more specifically where the sounds were recorded. The strategy I used on my walk was taking the first left, then right, then left, etc... However, I almost immediately sabotaged this because I really wanted to go around the man-made lake.

Winter Birds, Brookfield, WI

I was immediately surprised by the number of bird sounds I heard. Almost immediately after starting my walk, I heard a few birds singing in a tree off to my left. I stopped and pressed "record"...

Car at Intersection, Brookfield, WI

The car snuck up on me, and it took me a second to realize what direction it was coming from. The stereo picture of this recording is what makes it interesting - the combination of the car moving towards and then away from me, and my own rotation as I try to locate the car.

Lady Shoveling, Brookfield, WI

I was startled when I realized that the scraping sounds were coming from someone shoveling. I was convinced that I was making them, either with my coat or my shoes. The lady seemed to catch on that I was listening to her, even though I tried to be as inconspicuous as possible - hiding behind a tree.

Dog Conversation, Bookfield, WI

I'm not sure where these dogs were, but the echoes and reflections on their barks caught my ear. It seems like every house in this neighborhood has at least one dog.

Kids In Snow - Brookfield, Wisconsin

These kids sure sounded like they were having fun. It was finally warm enough for them to play outside, and their mother had also joined them to do some shoveling. I think she was also making sure no snowball fights occurred. I was able to stay out of sight by remaining a good distance away.
